West Palm Beach, FL- (February 28, 2019) Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, the largest pet adoption and animal welfare organization in Palm Beach County, held a groundbreaking ceremony on February 21 for its new Pet Adoption and Humane Education Center. Nearly 100 guests, including board members, donors, dignitaries and friends of the League, joined in this momentous occasion.
The new Pet Adoption and Humane Education Center is being constructed at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League (located at 3200 N. Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL 33409) over the next year. Thanks to the League’s generous supporters, Peggy Adams continues to save thousands of animals each year. With the planned campus expansion, the League will be able to save thousands more. Upon its scheduled opening in 2020, the Center will have the capacity to double the numbers of lives saved.
“It is because of the incredibly generous support of thousands of caring donors, and the dedication of our Board of Directors under the leadership of its Chair, Lesly Smith, that we are able to take this major step in order to save more lives,” said Rich Anderson, Executive Director/CEO of Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League. “Our goal is to continue making Peggy Adams one of the nation’s leading animal welfare organizations. This new facility will allow us to save twice as many lives each year and provide quality humane education programs that are sorely lacking in our community. Educating more people – youth in particular – about the humane treatment of animals, is critical to the prevention of cruelty, abuse and the abandonment of animals,” Anderson added.
On Monday, February 25, the West Palm Beach City Commission unanimously approved the project. “We truly appreciate the continued support of the City of West Palm Beach, Mayor Muoio and the entire Commission,” said Rich Anderson. “Our partnership with the City continues to grow as highlighted by our recent Walk for the Animals which was held at the Meyer Amphitheatre for the first time. We couldn’t ask for a better location and the community agreed. We had the biggest turnout in the event’s 18-year history.”

All programs at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League support the Countdown 2 Zero initiative (C2Z), the partnership with Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control to save every adoptable animal in Palm Beach County. Since launching in 2014, the C2Z initiative has been responsible for a 70 percent drop in the number of animals being put down at Animal Care & Control. By 2024, Palm Beach County will be one of the largest no-kill communities in the United States.
