Tired of your dog not coming when called the first time you ask? Annoyed by a dog who drags you for a walk or doesn’t seem to notice when you’re talking to him? If your dog’s behavior has got you a bit frustrated or embarrassed, or if you just want a little more polite behavior, it might be time for an Obedience Class. Living with an engaged and responsive dog is one of life’s greatest pleasures! At Lucky Dog Training Club we have designed a four-level Obedience program (outlined below) to help you on your journey to enjoying a calmer and better-behaved dog.

Why Enroll in an Obedience Class
  • We want to help make life with your dog easier by allowing you to enjoy a calm and well-behaved companion. Teaching your dog to understand your obedience commands is important, but it’s the relationship-building that really counts. When you build communication skills and a better relationship with your dog, better manners and obedience will easily follow.
  • We will train or improve basic obedience skills and improve manners. We will work on attention, impulse control, and the ability to work around distractions. We will help you build better motivation and confidence and discuss how to solve some pesky behavior problems.
  • The Basic Obedience and Manners Class is the foundation for all future training and is perfect for improving the behavior of your favorite pooch. We will train or improve basic obedience skills and improve manners. We will work on attention, impulse control, and the ability to work around distractions. We will help you build better motivation and confidence and discuss how to solve some pesky behavior problems. A few things that we will focus on in this class include:
    • Improving the manners of your favorite pooch.
    • Improving basic obedience skills such as sit, down, stay, go to your mat, and come.
    • Solving troublesome problems such as pulling on leash.
    • Using impulse control games to teach leave it and other skills to decrease unwanted behaviors such as pulling toward lizards, squirrels or other dogs while on walks.
    • Getting better attention and focus so your dog will respond to you the first time, even around distractions.
    • Teaching your dog to work around other dogs and people, and build drive, motivation, and confidence.
    • Teaching you how to utilize the power of the clicker to teach skills quickly using positive techniques.
    • Teaching you to reward success, not punish mistakes. This results in a dog that has trust and confidence in you and who is eager to learn.

Prerequisite

  • This class is for dogs 16 weeks and older that get along well with other dogs and people (friendly or disinterested; no barking or lunging at others) as we may do some off-leash work in this class.
  • All attendees MUST have the following vaccinations before attendance. Please send proof of vaccination through email to training@peggyadams.org at least 72 hours prior to the first day of class.
  • Proof of Three (3) Vaccinations:
    • DHPP (Distemper, Parvovirus & Parainfluenza) 1 or 3-yr. vaccine required.
    • Bordetella (Required every 12 months (or as required under the applicable law of your jurisdiction or residence) and at least 48 hours prior to check-in to ensure maximum efficiency and protection against Kennel Cough. Please note that many veterinarians administer this vaccine only by request.
    • Rabies (1 or 3-yr. vaccine required. *Rabies per local ordinance.)

Unfortunately, WE WILL NOT ALLOW ENTRY, if proper vaccination documentation is not presented!

This class is set to work with common adolescent dog issues instead of targeting only one issue.

What to expect in class?

Our 5-week Doggy Delinquents class focuses on common issues among adolescent dogs including jumping, pulling on leash, barking, and more. In this class, you will learn the basics of positive reinforcement training and how to apply that to help train some of the most common issues among young or “teenage” dogs. This class will also help to create and strengthen the bond between you and your dog and encourage a better understanding of how your dog is feeling or trying to communicate to you with some of the behaviors trained in the class.

Prerequisite

  • Your dog must be over 16 weeks old. All attendees MUST have the following vaccinations before attendance. Please send proof of vaccination through email to training@peggyadams.org at least 72 hours prior to the first day of class.
    • Proof of Three (3) Vaccinations:
      • DHPP (Distemper, Parvovirus & Parainfluenza) 1 or 3-yr. vaccine required.

An off-leash puppy class utilizing positive reinforcement is a fun and interactive training program designed to help young dogs develop essential skills and behaviors in a controlled and enjoyable environment. This class focuses on building a strong bond between the puppy and their owner while using positive reinforcement techniques to reward desired behaviors.

During the class, puppies are given the freedom to explore and socialize with the other dogs in a safe and supervised setting. Positive reinforcement methods such as treats, praise, and play are used to motivate and reward puppies for their good behavior.

What to expect in class?
  • Week 1 – Name game, treat and grab, come aways, watch me, sit. Topic: Potty training, crate training, separation from your puppy
  • Week 2 – Touch, recall, down. Topic: Puppy biting, mental stimulation.
  • Week 3 – Wait/take, Intro to walking on a leash, on leash greetings, wait for the food bowl. Topic: Rewards and punishment, how to use rewards effectively.
  • Week 4 – Place and how to start stay. Topic: Handling, nail trims and grooming.
  • Week 5 – Review of all and introduction to unfamiliar objects. These will be introduced throughout each class as well. Topic: The importance of exposing your puppy to new things and how to overcome fears.

Prerequisite

  • This class is for puppies 8-16 weeks old. Puppies will need a negative fecal or proof of deworming through a vet, at least one Distemper/Parvo vaccine, and a Bordetella vaccine to participate. Please bring all of those records to the first class.
    • All attendees MUST have the following vaccinations before attendance. Please send proof of vaccination through email to training@peggyadams.org at least 72 hours prior to the first day of class.
    • Proof of Three (3) Vaccinations:

This reactive dog class is a specialized training program designed to help dogs who exhibit reactive behavior, such as excessive barking, lunging or growling in response to specific triggers. This class employs positive reinforcement techniques to teach dogs alternative, more desirable behaviors while reducing their reactivity.

What to expect in class?
  • Week 1 – Orientation with the owners via Zoom. This Zoom orientation will go over the class structure and what to expect from the class. We will discuss safety precautions and what you will need for the class.
  • Week 2 – Watch me, bowling go find, leash handling skills (miming, braking, properly holding the leash)
  • Week 3 – Walking skills, leave it with the head turn, turn and go don’t go slow! (stuffed dogs)
  • Week 4 – Turn and go conga line (real dogs), “here and sit”, “walking watch me”
  • Week 5 – Touch, CGC greetings with distance

Through training and learning, you and your dog develop a better understanding of one another. The skills taught in this class help build a more confident, working partnership between you and your dog with improved focus and motivation. This cornerstone class prepares dog/handler teams to continue their training journey by refining basic skills and adding intermediate ones while improving impulse control and attention. Walking on a loose lead, stays, come when called, and some Canine Good Citizen skills such as polite greetings and accepting a friendly stranger are included.

  • This class is for dogs 16 weeks and older that get along well with other dogs and people (friendly or disinterested; no barking or lunging at others) as we may do some off-leash work in this class. Successful completion of Basic Obedience, Level 1 (or similar entry-level obedience class).

    • Proof of Three (3) Vaccinations:
      • DHPP (Distemper, Parvovirus & Parainfluenza) 1 or 3-yr. vaccine required.
