Lost & Found

Our team is here to assist in reuniting beloved pets with their families. Below, you'll find helpful information on the steps to take when a cherished cat or dog has gone missing.

Found a Dog?

Check for tags

If the pet doesn’t have an ID tag, are they wearing a local license or rabies tag? Those can be used to find the owner.

You can call the number on the tag, or you can take the pet to Peggy Adams or a veterinary office so they can scan it for a microchip.

Search online
Search the Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control database for lost dogs in your area.
Submit a report

File a lost or found report with Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control.

We suggest you check with neighbors and area veterinarians, hang signs, and post notices on social media sites such as Facebook and Nextdoor app. 90% of dogs are reunited with owners within one mile of their home.

Take the pet to a shelter

If you cannot temporarily care for the pet while trying to find the owner, we recommend taking the pet to Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control or to Peggy Adams.

If you cannot safely transport the pet, call Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control at 561-233-1200.

Found a Cat?

TNVR

Is the cat’s ear tipped? If so, leave them alone. This is a community cat that has gone through TNVR.

If their ear is not tipped, you can set a trap so the cat can be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and then returned to their outdoor home.

Neonate Kittens

If you find a litter of kittens, do not “kit-nap” them. Chances are that their mother is close by and caring for them. If you have not seen the mom around for a while, set a trap.

Young Kittens

If you find a kitten that appears to be older than eight weeks old, you can bring them into our shelter. Generally, we will admit kittens for our adoption program if they are social with people.

Lost Pet

Did you find a lost pet? Typically, a lost pet cat will be scared and frightful. Set a trap and bring it into our shelter to see if they are microchipped.

Lost a Pet?

Ask neighbors to check their garages, under cars, and their yards. Call the pet’s name, stop, and listen frequently. Do not chase a lost pet. If you see your pet, sit on the ground, and talk to them in a normal voice, offer treats, and take your time.

If you lost a cat, try leaving things with your cat’s scent outside by your door. Items could include their food, litterbox, cat tree, blanket, etc. Be sure to provide a way for them to get inside or a place for them to hide on your property.

Contact the microchip company where your pet is registered and make sure the contact information associated with the chip is correct.

Their facial recognition software will alert you if someone has found a dog that looks similar to your dog.
