Volunteering at Peggy Adams
Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League. The Volunteer Program is designed for individuals 16 years and older who want to donate some of their valuable free time to help our animals. Our volunteer team plays an important role in helping fulfill our vision of creating a community where 100% of adoptable animals find loving homes and no animals will be euthanized because of pet overpopulation.

Important Information
- We are currently asking for a 3-month commitment, attending one shift a week (3 to 4 hours).
- Volunteers must be 16 years old to start volunteering.
- Positions that involve working with shelter dogs are for volunteers 18+.
- Volunteers must be able to work independently.
- Volunteers are an extension of our staff, and they must meet the requirements of each position (attendance, training, performance, etc.).
- We are currently not accepting court-ordered volunteers.
Highest Priority Volunteer Position
Animal Care - Dogs
Must be at least 18 years old! As a Dog Care Volunteer, you will have the responsibility of assisting Animal Care staff with the daily care of the dogs, such as cleaning kennels, walking & enriching dogs, washing dishes, doing laundry, and grooming.

Available 7 Days a Week
Admissions Customer Service
As an Admissions Volunteer, you will assist with the intake process of animals accepted to the shelter and our TNVR check-in process. Other tasks include data entry, community support, answering phone calls, responding to voicemails, replying to emails, and so much more!
TNVR check-in support – Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 7:30 am to 10:30 am
Admissions support – Fridays and Sundays
Adoptions Customer Service
As an Adoptions Customer Service Volunteer, you will assist with answering basic questions and inquiries, directing clients to the proper department, and managing the busy Adoption Center lobby. At times, you will be asked to retrieve messages from the answering machine for the Adoptions Team. You will also help with creating profiles for adopters in our system and assist with managing the Shaggy Shoppe, our pet boutique, if needed.

Animal Care - Cats
As a Cat Care Volunteer, you will have the responsibility of assisting Animal Care staff with the daily care of our cats and kittens, such as spot cleaning kennels & cages, refreshing food & water bowls, sweeping floors so they are free of litter, hair & debris, and doing laundry, when needed.
Animal Care - Dogs
Must be at least 18 years old! As a Dog Care Volunteer, you will have the responsibility of assisting Animal Care staff with the daily care of the dogs, such as cleaning kennels, walking & enriching dogs, washing dishes, doing laundry, and grooming.
Custodial Assistant
Volunteers will work with the maintenance department to help with general cleaning, floors, windows, empty trash cans in and outside of the facility and be available for other duties as they arise. Utilizes approved tools and methods to facilitate a healthy level of cleanliness throughout the shelter property.
Driver
Enrichment Volunteer
As an Enrichment Volunteer, you will be responsible for assisting the Behavior team in preparing and distributing treats and toys to the cats and/or dogs in the shelter, as well as collecting and cleaning toys.
Must be at least 16 years old.
Event Support Volunteer
- Greeting, thanking, front door, or ushering.
- Passing out promotional materials or items.
- Checking in and/or registering event guests.
- Staffing tables or booths.
- Any other duties as assigned by staff or as required by the event.
Foster Support Assistant
As a Foster Support Assistant, you will have the responsibility of assisting foster parents when they pick up or return foster animals, as well as ensure foster parents have the supplies they need. This volunteer will prepare supply kits as needed, as well as answer calls and emails pertaining to the foster program and enter data into the database, as
needed.
Highest priority shifts: Thursdays and Fridays for 2-hour shifts between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm.
Volunteers must be 16 years old or older!
Laundry Assistant
Volunteers will work with the Animal Care department and other departments to help with laundry duties. Utilizes approved tools and methods to facilitate the flow of laundry through the shelter (washing, drying, folding, distributing). This volunteer will also make sure that the equipment stays in good condition (removing lint, removing trash).
Available Monday - Friday
Instrument Sterilization Assistant
The Instrument Sterilization Assistant is responsible for cleaning and sterilizing instruments correctly, confirming the integrity of the instruments, restocking, and organizing sterilized instruments in the Operating Room for use.
Volunteers in this position must be at least 16 years old. Students looking for community service hours are welcome.

Corporate & Group Volunteering
Volunteering is an excellent way to get your organization involved in our cause. Our volunteers play an important role in helping fulfill our vision of creating a community where 100% of the adoptable animals find loving homes and no animals will be euthanized because of pet overpopulation. We offer group and corporate volunteer opportunities for single-day or recurring projects.
Please note that on-campus volunteers are required to be over the age of 16.
