WEST PALM BEACH, FL– (October 15, 2021) – On Saturday, October 16, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is expected to receive 15 or more dogs from the ongoing rescue missions out of Louisiana due to Hurricane Ida. With so many people impacted by Hurricane Ida, Louisiana SPCA continues to be the animal transport hub for the region in order to help with the huge surge in intake at their shelter and across the region.

Coordinated by Louisiana SPCA, Peggy Adams is scheduled to receive animals Saturday morning before 9 am.  Additional receiving shelters include Humane Society of the Treasure Coast and Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County.

“By transporting adoptable animals out of Louisiana, we are creating much needed space to take-in animals affected by Ida,” says Louisiana SPCA CEO Ana Zorrilla. “We’re not only transporting animals from our facility, but animals from all over southeast Louisiana.”

“Though it’s been about six weeks since Hurricane struck Louisiana, the situation there continues to be dire for both people and pets,” according to Rich Anderson, Executive Director/CEO of Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League. “During times like this, it’s important for shelters elsewhere to help if possible and it’s been great to see shelters in Florida and elsewhere step up.”

The dogs arriving at Peggy Adams will get full medical exams and should be available for adoption in about two weeks.

Peggy Adams has a variety of adorable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens looking for their forever loving home. All adoptable pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adopters receive a free starter bag of Hill’s Pet Nutrition food, 30 days of PetFirst Pet Insurance, and a registered HomeAgain Microchip. To view available adoptable animals and learn about the adoption process, please visit PeggyAdams.org/Adopt

If you are unable to adopt but still wish to help Peggy Adams care for these animals in our community, you can become a foster volunteer. Foster volunteers provide temporary care for animals in need. Peggy Adams provides all the supplies; fosters supply a temporary, loving home so that all these animals will be saved.
