WEST PALM BEACH, FL- (August 16, 2021) Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is excited to announce its new program called “Rescue Readers.” This Humane Education program gives children five through 15 the opportunity to read aloud to adoptable animals at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League.
“Whether your children are too young to volunteer on campus and looking for service hours, or you’re looking for a new way to engage your kids, reading to shelter animals is a perfect fit,” said Shellie Kalmore, Peggy Adams’ Education Manager. “Not only are the children able to develop their reading skills and boost self-esteem in front of a non-judgmental audience, but it also provides valuable socialization and love to the shelter animals.”
Please note that in order to participate, readers and parent/guardian must attend an orientation. Parent/guardians must also be present and engaged during all reading sessions. Each reader must be accompanied by an adult.
The cost for this 10-week Fall session is: $65, which includes the required orientation & training. If the program is full, please sign up for the waitlist in order to be notified when spaces become available.
Orientation dates include Thursday , September 2nd from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm and Friday, September 3rd from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. During the orientation class, participants will: learn about dog and cat behaviors; learn to recognize signs of stress; learn to provide a soothing and calming environment for shelter pets; and engage in practice reading session to review supplies, needs and rules. After participants have complete required training, they will be able to sign up for weekly reading sessions that take place on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
