Ahead of Hurricane Milton, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League took in 21 dogs and 16 cats from shelters in Clewiston and Venice Beach on October 8, 2024. This is in addition to the 12 dogs and 16 cats, Peggy Adams just transferred from other shelters impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Peggy Adams activated their emergency assistance plan, and teams traveled across the state in rental vans to pick up the animals ahead of the hurricane. As part of their Clewiston transport, Peggy Adams also picked up ten dogs plus additional supplies to be transferred to Palm Beach International Airport, where they will be flown to Panama City Beach.
“Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is providing emergency relief to shelters directly in the path of Hurricane Milton,” said Jane Tomsich, Director of Operations at Peggy Adams. “Our team has transferred 47 cats and dogs from the West Coast of Florida, 37 of which will remain at our shelter, and the other ten have been flown to Panama City Beach. We’re proud to step up and help our neighbors in need and will continue to provide relief efforts as our capacity allows”.
All the animals have received a medical examination. The 22 dogs from Clewiston will be placed in foster homes as they wait for space to be made in the adoption center. If you are interested in being a foster parent, please email foster@peggyadams.org.
Currently, the intake of local animals at Peggy Adams is paused through the weekend. The Bissell adoption special will continue until October 15th, with adult cats for $25 and adult dogs for $50. There is a $20 rabies tag fee for all Palm Beach County residents.
