WEST PALM BEACH, FL– (September 10, 2021) – On Saturday, September 11, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is expected to receive 15 dogs displaced after Hurricane Ida ripped through the state of Louisiana and the hardest hit areas of Mississippi. Peggy Adams is one of a dozen Florida shelters involved in this rescue mission coordinated by the Florida Association of Animal Welfare Organizations.
As many as 270 dogs and cats will arrive Saturday morning at PetAlliance in Orlando (Southern Pines Animal Shelter in Hattiesburg, MS is coordinating the transport to Orlando). The Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County plans on arriving in Orlando to transport animals to its shelter, where Peggy Adams will pick up the 15 dogs they are rescuing. Before these dogs can be adopted, they will be in quarantine for at least two weeks.
According to Rich Anderson, Executive Director/CEO of Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, this could be one of several future evacuation transports and encourages people to adopt dogs and cats currently at Peggy Adams in order to make more room.
Peggy Adams currently has more than 600 animals in its care and to make more room at the shelter, Peggy Adams is offering a Name Your Own Price adoption fee promotion for of their dogs and cats that need to find a loving home. Peggy Adams is also offering an Adopt One, Get One adoption promotion on all cats and kittens.
If you are unable to adopt but still wish to help Peggy Adams care for these animals in our community, you can become a foster volunteer. Foster volunteers provide temporary care for animals in need. Peggy Adams provides all the supplies; fosters supply a temporary, loving home so that all these animals will be saved.
Peggy Adams has a variety of adorable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens looking for their forever loving home. All adoptable pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adopters receive a free starter bag of Hill’s Pet Nutrition food, 30 days of PetFirst Pet Insurance, and a registered HomeAgain Microchip.
