WEST PALM BEACH, FL (December 20, 2022) Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is holding a TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) Spay Day on Saturday, January 7, 2023. The goal is to spay/neuter 500 Palm Beach County free-roaming community cats.
TNVR is a program in which free-roaming cats are humanely trapped, spayed/neutered, vaccinated for rabies and other feline viruses, ear tipped, and then returned to their outdoor homes. TNVR has been shown to be the least costly, most effective, and humane way of stabilizing and decreasing community cat populations.
The regular cost of spay/neuter services for one cat is $75; however, all community cats brought to Peggy Adams for this event with be sterilized and vaccinated free of charge. Peggy Adams has traps available to loan for the event. All cats must come in a trap and traps should be covered with a sheet or a towel with one cat per trap (no cats in carriers can be accepted).
Online registration is recommended and will create a faster check-in experience. Walk-ins will be accepted if space allows. For online registration visit PeggyAdams.org/spayday. For more information email TNVR@PeggyAdams.org or call (561) 686-9797.
Every cat will receive all the following services for free on Spay Day: spay/neuter, FVRCP and rabies vaccines, microchip, and left ear tip. Palm Beach County Ordinance 98-22 requires cats to be spayed or neutered and microchipped by four months of age.
Peggy Adams hopes this TNVR Spay Day will help get ahead of Kitten Season- the time from early spring through late fall when cats give birth to countless kittens. Kitten Season creates a strain on shelters, including Peggy Adams, due to the hundreds of newborn and young kittens coming into their programs. This results in the need for increased staffing and foster families.
The team at Peggy Adams will be joined by Operation Catnip Gainesville for Spay Day. Operation Catnip’s life-saving work improves the lives of cats and the communities in which they live by spaying, neutering, and vaccinating free-roaming cats, preventing the births of kittens, mentoring other programs around the country, and training veterinarians to save America’s community cats.
