WEST PALM BEACH, FL (September 5, 2019) Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is preparing and ready to assist the impacted Bahamian animal shelters and communities. As a statewide collaborative and coordinated effort of the Florida Association of Animal Welfare Organizations (FAAWO.org), Florida shelters and rescues are currently waiting for an assessment to be completed by the Bahamian authorities who will identify specific needs. Peggy Adams will be sharing updates on its website PeggyAdams.org and Facebook page (@PeggyAdamsARL) as information is received.
BAARK (Bahamas Alliance for Animal Rights and Kindness), The Bahamas Humane Society, The Veterinary Medical Association of the Bahamas and The Ministry of Agriculture will work along with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). IFAW is an international organization that has the expertise to help navigate the days, weeks and months ahead. Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League and other Florida shelters and rescues will be working through IFAW.
Thanks to the outpouring of our local community during and after Hurricane Dorian, Peggy Adams is prepared to assist more lost, abandoned and injured animals here in Palm Beach County and animals that will be rescued from the Bahamas. To make room at Peggy Adams, individuals and families are encouraged to consider adopting a dog, cat, puppy or kitten currently in its West Palm Beach shelter. Now through Sunday, September 8th, Peggy Adams is waiving adoption fees for all animals currently in need of new loving homes.
“Our hearts and prayers are with the people of the Bahamas and we are ready to help in any way we can, including providing supplies and providing care, shelter and new homes for displaced dogs and cats,” said Rich Anderson, Executive Director/CEO of Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League. “Our efforts will be coordinated with IFAW and BAARK, and I know our local community will fully support this effort to save lives.”
Please note that the Government of the Bahamas is discouraging all self-deployed rescue and relief services for both people and pets. At this time, if you would like to donate to relief efforts, we recommend monetary donations to one of the following Bahamian organizations:
