In the wake of two major hurricanes, Milton and Helene, that made a devastating impact on people and their pets, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League mobilized to provide rescue, relief, and recovery efforts. With a $10,000 grant made immediately available by PetSmart Charities, Peggy Adams aided impacted pets.
In the aftermath of the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Milton and the devastation from Hurricane Helene, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League stepped up to help animals in need. 64 cats and dogs from the west coast of Florida have found refuge at Peggy Adams, where they received medical care, comfort, and love they deserve. Volunteers and fosters jumped into action to support the team at Peggy Adams and to ensure that every pet received the attention and care they needed during this challenging time.
Disaster response grants made by PetSmart Charities promote people and pets staying together during crises, when they need each other most. When people suffer during natural disasters, their pets often suffer too. As important members of the family, pets, too, have urgent needs for shelter, medical care, nutritious food, and social support.
“We’re proud to be part of a dedicated network of shelters and animal welfare organizations,” says Sue Berry, CEO, “all working tirelessly to provide immediate care, food, and support for pets impacted by these storms. Together, we can rebuild lives—both human and animal.”
“For communities impacted by major disasters, direct support for animal shelters is a critical piece of the recovery process,” said Kate Atema, director of community grants and initiatives at PetSmart Charities. “We were proud to be able to support the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League with funds that enabled them to care for dozens of pets in need of shelter and care. Caring for pets means caring for communities, and we’re thankful so many people stepped up to care for these pets when they needed it most.”
