Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Alyssa Comroe as Chief Executive Officer, welcoming a new chapter of leadership for Palm Beach County’s oldest animal welfare organization.
A respected and valued leader within the organization, Dr. Comroe has served as Director of Veterinary Medicine for the past five years. During her tenure, she has helped drive significant growth, including the tremendous expansion of the Safety Net Program, which now provides more than 500,000 meals annually through Peggy’s Pantry Pet Food Bank and offers free community clinics to underserved areas across Palm Beach County. She also created the Peggy Adams Spay Day events bringing together people from across the county and state to sterilize 500 community cats in a single day. She brings exceptional leadership, strategic expertise, and a deep passion for animal welfare to her new role.
“Dr. Comroe has already made an extraordinary impact on Peggy Adams through her leadership, compassion, and vision for the future of animal welfare” says Pauline Pitt, Board Chair. “We are thrilled to welcome her as Chief Executive Officer and are confident that under her guidance, the organization will continue to expand its lifesaving work across Palm Beach County and beyond.”
Dr. Alyssa Comroe began her career in animal welfare at Miami-Dade Animal Services as a veterinary technician. After discovering her passion for animal sheltering and animal welfare, she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida, where she also earned her Master in Public Health and the Maddie’s Certificate in Shelter Medicine, a specialized training program in shelter veterinary care and operations.
Throughout her career, Dr. Comroe has led and supported lifesaving initiatives at animal welfare organizations and academic institutions across Florida and the Midwest. Her previous roles include serving as a shelter veterinarian in Jacksonville, faculty in shelter medicine at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and veterinarian at Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center. Her work has focused on expanding shelter capacity, improving standards of care, strengthening pet retention programs, conducting research, and helping prepare the next generation of shelter veterinarians.
“It is an incredible honor to step into the role of Chief Executive Officer at Peggy Adams” says Dr. Alyssa Comroe, Chief Executive Officer. “This organization has long been a pillar of compassionate care in our community, and I am deeply committed to building on its legacy while expanding access to lifesaving programs and services for pets and the people who love them.”
