Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League announces Alex Serrano as the organization’s new Director of Operations.
Alex was born and raised in Miami, where her love for animals began at a young age. She always knew she wanted to help both people and their pets, and this passion led her to earn a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Florida. While in school, she worked as an Emergency Technician at the UF Small Animal Hospital, assisting in high-stress emergency cases and surgeries, which deepened her commitment to helping animals in need.
After graduating, Alex gained hands-on experience in animal care and management, taking on leadership roles at Pet Paradise, where she oversaw operations and staff across multiple locations. While she loved working with pets daily, she felt drawn to making a larger impact, which led her to nonprofit work. At Lubee Bat Conservancy, she cared for Fruit Bats while training and managing volunteers—an experience that further reinforced her passion for animals and community engagement.
In 2022, Alex joined Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League as the Clinic & Safety Net Manager, where she built the Safety Net program from the ground up. She ensured that pet owners in crisis had access to critical resources like pet food, medical care, and temporary housing. Through outreach, sterilization initiatives, and resource distribution, she has helped thousands of pets stay with their families, strengthening the bond between people and their animals.
Now, as Director of Operations, Alex is dedicated to optimizing shelter operations, expanding community partnerships, and improving outcomes for pets and their families. When she’s not working, Alex enjoys spending time with her three dogs: Kiwi, Cakepop, and Tuna.
